In the woodland

I truly live in an animal sanctuary. There is such a myriad of woodland creatures that call my yard their home. Squirrels, chipmunks, field mice, rabbits(BIG ones!)... (I've even seen one or two actually wearing long britches, suspenders, and walking sticks whilst sipping tea at the picnic table! NO LIE.) Also, we have beavers. Yes, I said beavers. Well, ONE at least.
One day it charged the sliding glass door, stood on it's hind legs, and stretched almost 3 feet up to peer in at me and Jack. I had a small stroke. Once I saw an as yet unknown animal slink by the door. My first response was to call it a weasel. I've never actually seen a weasel, but it seemed to be what one would look like. A long slender body, pointy nose, short legs, low to the ground and a long tail covered in dark hair. (If anyone would like to offer a guess, feel free.) Also, I have had very intimate rendezvous with snakes, lizards, turtles, salamanders... cats, dogs, chupacabras... hawks, owls, and all manner of feathered friend....

I've pondered if whether we're not actually living on top of the old burial grounds of the Austell Zoo or something. And all of the ghostly inhabitants are coming back to haunt us. I mean, seriously... These animals be straight CRAZY!

There's just no telling what you'll see at the cottage.

So as Jack and I left the house this morning for our (my) usual Starbucks run... We pulled out of the drive and started through the neighborhood when I spied something that set my heart a flutter... A pile of junk set out by the road! SCORE! I almost stopped right there to get out and rifle through, but decided that it would be more befitting to get caffeinated first. So on returning... I ran into the house, grabbed my work gloves and a blanket, unceremoniously threw the stroller and random junk that usually occupies my hatch back, into my yard... and went to rescue my treasure. Everything in the heap was strangled with thick cobwebs, but I didn't let that deter me. I quickly appraised the lot, and saw what seemed to be my best bet... A long-abused old dining room chair. It's so ugly now... but just wait and see what I have in store for it!!!

It will be simply adorable when I get done with it!
Stay tuned!

I love these little unexpected pleasures. And on days like this, I really do love being in this house, in this city, in this time... at home, able to do what I like, with my wonderful son, and loving husband, and beautiful life.

All it takes to make me happy is a smiling chipmunk to greet me in the morning, a strong cuppa coffee, a laughing baby boy, and a dumpster dive. AHHH.... the simple life.

I can't wait to see what you do with the chair! You are so crafty! You must teach me! :) Also, I noticed you are reading the Twilight Series...I am quite intrigued by this. Please let me know what you think...I have been tempted to pick up the first one myself. :)
